Keynote
“In the age of AI data governance takes up an even more crucial role.”
The keynote at this year’s event highlighted how central data governance is as organisations increasingly turn to AI solutions. As AI technologies become more integrated into business processes, ensuring data is well-governed and properly managed becomes even more vital. Tools like Microsoft Copilot help break down technological barriers, increasing collaboration, but the true power of AI is unlocked only when data is reliable and well-managed.
The expanding role of AI introduces new risks associated with AI-driven decision-making. Organisations must focus on establishing strong data strategies to ensure the reliability and security of their data architecture. Data governance is no longer just a nice-to-have – it’s foundational for a successful AI transformation. The future of AI within businesses will depend on the quality of the underlying data that drives it.
Businesses must take the time to understand and implement solutions like Microsoft Purview to set the foundation for these AI-driven projects, as they will be vital in overcoming the challenges as industries continue to shift towards AI-centric models.

Microsoft Fabric
“To take advantage of AI you need your data to rendezvous with your AI agent.”
One of the standout announcements at Microsoft Ignite 2024 was Fabric, which Microsoft is positioning as the key platform for AI adoption. Fabric enables organisations to centralise their data warehousing in a unified platform, optimised for AI consumption. By consolidating all your organisation’s data services into this single platform, you can easily compile a comprehensive view of your critical data with minimal effort.
Fabric Databases is the latest addition, providing powerful functionality across analytics, real-time insights, and transactional analysis. This enhancement is designed to address common barriers to Fabric adoption, particularly for businesses handling complex data structures.
Copilot Analytics
How do you measure the benefit of AI to an organisation? Microsoft Copilot Analytics helps organisations track how AI usage correlates with key performance metrics. By linking usage data to business outcomes, organisations can easily build a compelling business case for Copilot adoption. This tool helps identify best practices and areas for improvement, ensuring organisations realise the full potential of AI within their operations.
In addition, our Consulting Director Mike Haresnape had this to say on his post from Ignite:
“I’m on the train creating my own Copilot agents to demonstrate the ease and pace by which we can solve data challenges now… and it will only get better! Less than 5 minutes and my agent can now proactively scan our Dufrain sharepoint for PII (Personally Identifiable Information) as defined by the ICO. At Dufrain, we’re already working to embed Copilot agents into our accelerators and data products we deliver to our clients.”

Real-Time Hub & Events
Another exciting announcement at Microsoft Ignite 2024, RTI promises to offer a comprehensive suite for streaming data. Ingestion, processing and visualising data in real-time will enable organisations to make timely decisions for live data.
Real-Time Hub will provide users with the ability to connect, explore, and take actions on streaming data. Users will also be able to leverage Copilot to create real-time dashboards quickly, significantly shortening the time to insight.
Additionally, Real-Time Events support will allow businesses to build event-driven applications and automate workflows based on specific triggers. This new feature ensures that organisations can tailor their analytical approach to the unique demands of each use case, all within the same unified platform.
Time-critical analysis driven by real-time intelligence or longer term more holistic analysis through Power BI are now both achievable in one place, whereas historically tool selection for disparate use cases may have led to selecting multiple technologies or singular platforms with greater compromises to tackle these challenges.
Excitingly, Microsoft’s investment here now provides a real unified approach to the widest range of analytical challenges with the ability to scale for large organisations.
