1. Tell us a little bit about what you do
I’m an experienced cloud data engineer with a strong background in ETL development and data management. My expertise lies in using technologies like Python, AWS, SQL, and Tableau. I’ve worked in various roles, such as a data analyst, marketing data analyst, and insight and analytics manager, before becoming a senior consultant. In my current role, I help clients in Financial Services to improve their data infrastructure and processes. My strengths include coaching and training team members, engaging with stakeholders, and delivering projects ahead of schedule. I’m also quite versatile and can adapt quickly to new and changing environments.
2. Can you tell us a few details about the favourite part of your job?
What I love most about my job as a cloud data engineer is working with intelligent people and tackling some tricky data problems. There’s nothing better than getting stuck into the latest tech, like Python, AWS, and Tableau, to come up with solutions that make a real difference for our clients. And let me tell you, when you see things start to work like a well-oiled machine, it’s a great feeling. Plus, we can always have light-hearted conversations which add to the positive environment.
3. What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me begins with a hot cup of tea and a quick catch-up on emails. I then swiftly move on to developing and maintaining ETL processes using Python, AWS, and more recently, Scala. I collaborate with team members and stakeholders and manage projects employing agile methodologies. Throughout the day, I offer the team guidance and support where needed and remain ready to adapt to any new developments. My day concludes with wrapping up tasks, making notes, and planning for the next day.
4. Which company value resonates with you the most?
The company value that resonates with me the most is undoubtedly #getbusyliving, as it emphasizes the importance of collaboration among all members at Dufrain. I believe that working together and fostering strong relationships with colleagues not only leads to a more enjoyable and fulfilling work environment, but also ensures that we can pool our diverse skills and knowledge to tackle challenges and develop innovative solutions. This value encourages us to actively engage with one another, share ideas, and support each other in our professional growth, ultimately creating a strong sense of community and unity within the company.
5. What would you say has been your most significant achievement whilst working at Dufrain?
While working at Dufrain, I would say that leading a company’s first data engineering pod is one of my most significant achievements that I am particularly proud of. In this role, I had the opportunity to showcase the capabilities of cloud native tools to senior management, and by doing so, I managed to improve the time to delivery and complete the project ahead of schedule. Additionally, I am proud of becoming Dufrain’s internal AWS lead and successfully reducing a procedure at another leading business from 8 hours to just 1 hour.
6. Who inspires you the most within Dufrain?
Although there are many people that inspire me within Dufrain its hard to pick a singular person. If I had to pick one, the person that inspires me would be Kevin Block. When it comes to client processes his technical expertise is invaluable to me.
7. Which work benefit is your favourite and why?
My favourite work benefit is the continuous learning and development opportunities because they help me keep up to date with industry trends and enhance my skills, enabling me to contribute more effectively to the team.
