Global Payment Processing Provider
Cutting report time in half with data warehouse optimisation and automation

the challenge
A global payment processing provider engaged Dufrain to review and optimise its on-premise data warehouse in preparation for a future cloud migration.
The existing warehouse had grown organically without supporting documentation, leading to knowledge gaps, inefficiencies, and long reporting delays — with some reports taking over 20 hours to run.
The client also wanted to modernise their manual, resource-heavy reporting process and introduce a new automated reporting suite that could speed up delivery and enable their team to focus on business insight.

the solution
Dufrain launched two parallel workstreams:
1. Optimise the current warehouse and complete an in-progress data cube
2. Redesign and automate the reporting suite using Power BI
Key activities included:
- Conducting a top-down review of warehouse risks
- Mapping current architecture and creating full documentation
- Reviewing and optimising inefficient stored procedures
- Streamlining SSIS packages and decommissioning outdated scheduling steps
- Redeveloping reports in Power BI and automating where possible
- Running training workshops and supporting the internal team
- Providing weekly project updates to ensure full stakeholder visibility
